Through the years, many people have asked me how I got started with Discount
Tire Company and about my career path. This is my story. My career with
Discount Tire began as a part-time employee in 1962 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
After high school graduation I decided to work full-time with the company
while attending college in the mornings. I saw an opportunity at Discount
Tire that seemed more worthwhile than the higher paying jobs at the automobile
assembly lines nearby. |

Working shoulder to shoulder with Bruce Halle, the founder of the company, I
learned about the values of integrity, hard work, loyalty, dedication and
customer service. In 1970, soon after the company had expanded to Arizona, I
moved to Phoenix as an Assistant Manager and then became Manager of our
second Phoenix store. The company began to grow very quickly and I became
the Assistant Vice President of the Arizona Region in 1977. This area grew
to include Nevada, Utah, New Mexico and West Texas. As our company expanded,
a need arose for the efficient buying and distribution of our tire
inventories. I accepted this challenge, first as our Western Region Vice
President of Purchasing in 1980 and later as Senior Vice President of
Purchasing for all regions in 1985.

In the years that followed, Discount Tire continued to rapidly expand and I
had the opportunity to grow in my knowledge of our company and the industry.
In 1997 I was named the Executive Vice President of Company Operations, and
in 1999 it became my privilege to undertake the position of Chief Executive
Officer. In October of 2004 I was appointed Vice Chairman. In my new roll I
help identify business opportunities, which further expand our base of
stores throughout the country. Additionally, I spearhead special projects
to ensure our continuing success.

Today, we have 704 stores and our opportunities for growth are greater than
ever before. In the next five years we plan to expand to 900 locations
across the U.S. We will need people in every area and position of our
company, including stores, eBusiness, Internet sales, warehouses, regional
offices and the corporate office.

|
I encourage you to consider my path. It's the same path that can be
followed by any young man or woman who joins our company today. I also
want to emphasize that the progress of Discount Tire is not just in its
history. A bright future exists for everyone willing to work and turn
insight into opportunity.
