Hometown: Rochester Hills, MI
Favorite food: Steak and potatoes.
Favorite vacation destination: Hard to pick one, but I had a good time in Wyoming riding snowmobiles.
Favorite sports team: Michigan football.
Favorite racing movie: Senna
Guilty pleasure: Video games. (Why does it have to be guilty?)
What’s your current daily driver?
A Lincoln Navigator is our family car. It’s very nice and it handles well.
What are some of your favorite vehicles (personally and professionally) that you’ve driven?
The Ford GT is probably my favorite all-around car because it’s a 'hot rod' as Rusty Wallace would say. I like the Ford pick-up trucks; I like the Ford Expedition, I like the Ford Explorer. I like a lot of Fords.
What’s your pre-race routine like?
I don’t have one, other than take a shower and have a nice breakfast.
When you’re not getting ready for the next race how do you occupy your free time during the season?
With my family and with my business. It’s extremely difficult to balance those two at times but anything worth doing in life is difficult.
How do you unwind between races? In the offseason?
With my business. I unwind from my business with racing and I unwind from racing with my business.
What are your predictions for NASCAR over the next 5/10/20 years?
Hybrid race cars – I think hybrid race cars will be more relative to the car manufacturers. I think the fuel will be similar. That’s probably about it. Everything else will stay the same.
What has been the most exciting moment of your career?
Winning my first race. I remember my family being there, my mom and dad and the team being so excited, getting my first trophy. All those things were very special.
Who is your hero?
Entrepreneurs, Elon Musk and business moguls like Roger Penske. I like their vision and their drive.
What’s something most people don’t know about NASCAR that they should?
How much engineering goes into it and how much engineering talent there is in the sport and how important it is to the success of our team. We utilize every bit of engineering we get.
What has been your favorite interaction with Discount Tire as a partner?
The Lake Tahoe events that we do with the employees, who are bad (dudes). This is my tenth year with Discount Tire. I’m really humbled and pleasantly surprised by all the good things I have gotten to do with Discount Tire.
