2021 Mazda 3 Turbo – Tire Analysis
By: Discount Tire
Due to prowl the pavement in late 2020, the new Mazda 3 Turbo boasts a beefed-up engine to add to the MazdaSpeed performance pedigree.
Whether you go for sedan or hatch, you can expect new thrills behind the wheel on the 2021 Mazda 3 2.5 liter turbo.
With its turbo-powered inline-four cylinder engine, the new Mazda 3 is slated for 250 horses and a whopping 320 lb-ft of torque. While there are lower-powered entry-level models, any enthusiast and fan of the MazdaSpeed nameplate will only have eyes for the trim with more power.
Although there are no signs of a stick shift option available as of yet, a high-torque hatchback is fun whether you get to shift yourself or you rely on Mazda’s quick-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission.
When it comes to controlling all of that power, one of the biggest elements (and obviously our favorite) is the tires that will transfer its power to the pavement. And because we’re so amped up about the new turbo Mazda 3, we’re going to speculate on and try to match up the ideal tires for the 18-inch aluminum wheels the Mazda will ride on.
Mazda 3 Turbo Details
While Mazda haven’t released the full details on the new turbocharged 3, they have provided some pretty specs that we can go off of. According to Mazda, the 2021 Mazda 3 turbo will come with upgraded 18-inch wheels. While they haven’t said much more than that, we imagine we can fully expect something sleek, stylish and sport-inspired.
Per Treadwell™, our handy tire-buying guide, the original equipment tire size on the 2020 Mazda 3 are 215/45/R18. This sporty and balanced tire fitment should be a great option for the high-powered hatchback because of its low-profile sidewall, which helps ensure quick steering response. Additionally, many tires this size are already built for performance. This should help provide greater control over the horsepower and low-end torque coming from this higher-powered mill.
With that, let’s take a look into our crystal ball and see our predictions on the tires that just might be hitting the pavement on the soon-to-be-released 2021 Mazda 3 turbo.
Tires on 2020 Mazda 3 AWD
Mazda have confirmed that the new 3 turbo will hit the street on 18-inch gloss black forged wheels. That means you can count on these wheels to adhere to Mazda’s typically stylish design, but it also means that these wheels will be light and strong, which has a huge impact on on overall performance. (This is also the same-sized wheel on the outgoing 2020 Mazda3.)
While the exact tire may vary depending on where in the country you purchase your 3, the original equipment size on the 2020 Mazda 3 AWD is 215/45/R18, typically with a more sport-focused all-season tread. Based on the similarity in overall design, this is our best bet for the size and tire-type that will come standard on the 2021 turbo Mazda 3.
