If you can put up with the howling noise from the studs, there's no better winter tire out there, end of story. Don't screw around with the studless tires, these Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10's are as good as it gets in regards to trying to maintain some sort of semblance to highway speeds during winter highway driving. They wear really well (something you can't say about the pencil eraser soft tread of the studless tires) and grip really well, especially during that crucial road condition of 32 degrees and slightly above, when ice starts melting and glazing, where the studless tires are just as useless as regular all-season/actually only 3-season tires, I bought a set of Blizzaks for a truck last year and wish I hadn't, they were that terrible in comparison. Yes, the cost is somewhat higher per tire versus practically anything else, but these tires are also quite a bit better than anything else out there for winter driving, and this is after years of trying everything else out there (I used to sell tires for a living). In other words, cheap out at your own peril.
